Erbe & Denkmäler im Selketal
Explore the past in lifelike scenery
The Selketal region is characterized by mining in the Harz Mountains. Numerous tunnels run through the mountains underground, while the pond and trench systems above ground bear witness to the former heyday. Not only was ore mined in the Selke Valley, but it was also smelted and processed directly on site. For example in the Carlswerk, whose technical masterpieces once radiated throughout Europe.
Mining has disappeared from the Harz Mountains and the Selketal, but the sites of the past have been preserved to this day, such as the Glasebach mine. Immerse yourself in the fascinating history of the development of the Selketal in the region’s accessible technical monuments. History lessons could hardly be more tangible and exciting.
