Konrad Castle

Konradsburg

Enjoy the tranquillity of the former monastery

Konradsburg Castle in Ermsleben is located on the Romanesque Road and is stamp point 201 of the Harz hiking pin.

It was once the ancestral seat of the Counts of Konradsburg before they moved to Falkenstein in the 12th century. In contrast to the imposing Falkenstein Castle, Konradsburg Castle today shows hardly any traces of its military past protecting the imperial estate.

However, its second use as a Benedictine monastery is impressively visible. The monastery church of St. Sixtus is part of the complex. The high choir room and the preserved crypt below give an idea of the impressive size of the former basilica. In the crypt, columns with richly decorated capitals bear witness to outstanding architecture from around 1200.

At weekends and on public holidays, the cozy Galerie-Café at Konradsburg Castle welcomes you with delicious coffee and cake specialties.
