The Oberhof is a former estate and is located in the old town of Ballenstedt. The three-winged manor house is a quarry stone building and impresses with with simple Renaissance elements, while beautifully shaped dormers adorn the steep, red-tiled roof.

The building was first 1488 mentioned. In the 16th century, the Lords of Stammer expanded it into a fortified town castle. The Saalbuch of 1734 describes the estate with a manor house, outbuildings, barns, stables, brewery, distillery and a kitchen garden, which was supplied by a spring. Even today The property is still surrounded by a quarry stone wall and cross-vaulted ceilings have been preserved inside.

The park is designed in the English style, with native and foreign trees, a pigeon tower, a stone castle, a well house and a viewing platform. An avenue of lime trees separates the park from the former kitchen garden.

Duke Alexius Friedrich Christian von Anhalt-Bernburg acquired the Oberhof in 1825. In 1874, Armgard von Alvensleben bought the estate, renovated the manor house and had the park designed according to plans by the famous Prussian garden artist Peter Joseph Lenné.

Between 1948 and 2002, the Oberhof was used as a children’s daycare center. Today, the Oberhof is once again owned by the von Alvensleben family, who open their house to the public for cultural events. The family also offers guided tours. from Alvensleben on request on.
